The Spirit - Music from Ethymonics
|
|
|
The Spirit is a musical reflection on ancient texts. The vocal melodies and musical
accompaniments were created in performances that use natural instrumentation, including voice,
analogue synthesizer, violin and flute. The language in which they are sung is the same as
that in which the texts were originally spoken between two and three thousand years ago.

These pieces were recorded between November 2002 and February 2003. Several English translations of the
original texts were referred to when making the selections that inspired the music. A number of
the texts are from
Ecclesiastes, assumed to be the work of
King Solomon. English translations of the texts can be found
here.
